While living and working remotely on Hydra, Greece, Kim Sandin - entrepreneur and friend of NUDIENT, found a slower rhythm that matched the island’s timeless charm. Between co-founding a new company and swimming in quiet coves, he explored everything from family-run tavernas to hidden rooftop bars. This guide gathers his personal favorites. Whether for a weekend or a season, Hydra, Greece, offers the perfect mix of inspiration and escape.

Restaurants I keep coming back to
Ostria A warm, family-run Greek taverna where the owners head out each morning to catch the day’s fish themselves. I’d recommend going for the fish or squid of the day - it’s as fresh as it gets.
Taverna Marina A cozy lunch spot tucked into a small harbor, perfect for lingering over fresh fish and seafood. I’d go for the grilled fish and add a Greek classic or two to the table-it’s hard to go wrong here.
Techne A modern menu in a refined setting, and one of the best spots on the island to catch the sunset. I like to time it right and settle in with the pork belly; it’s a favorite for good reason.
Veranda Restaurant A slightly hidden rooftop spot that’s worth finding, for the view alone, but the food holds its own, too. I usually go for the sea urchin pasta when it’s on the menu.
Bars I like to end the day at
Windmill Bar A newer addition with some of the best sunsets on the island, set inside an old windmill. I’ve had great cocktails here, whatever you pick, the bartender knows what they’re doing.
L’Americano A stylish new bar run by an Italian family, with a cool colonial vibe and well-made drinks. I like it for all the Italian aperitivo classics - Negroni, Americano.
Amalour The go-to bar on the square where most people end up later in the evening. I usually keep it simple here with a cold Nammos beer, but they have solid drinks too.

Best coffee, bakeries, and quick bites
Kamin A bit tucked away above Hydra’s second harbor, this quiet café serves great coffee in a relaxed setting. I like coming here when I need a break from the busier parts of town.
Papagalos Technically a bar, but I’ve found it’s also a solid spot for coffee, especially if you want to people-watch along the harbor.
Oven Bakery A small, old-school bakery serving what, I think, are the best spinach and feta pies on the island. Perfect for a quick bite in the morning.

Walks, swims, and day trips I recommend
Avlaki A short walk from the port takes you to this quiet bay, perfect for reading, sunbathing, and doing absolutely nothing. I like starting my mornings here.
Island hike Cross over to the island’s wilder side. It’s a demanding trek, but I’ve always found the empty beaches at the end worth it.
Beach boat trip Spend the day exploring Hydra from the water, hop on a boat, and head to one of the island’s beaches. Paralia Mpisti is a personal favorite and perfect for a full day of swimming and relaxing.

Places I’ve stayed and would return to
Cactus Art Apartments A creative, family-run stay in a renovated 19th-century house. Each apartment is named after a cactus and has its own charm. I like it for its quiet vibe and easy access to both town and sea.
Orloff Hotel Hydra An elegant boutique hotel set in an 18th-century mansion just steps from the port. It feels like stepping into history, with great breakfasts in a peaceful garden.
Onar Hydra Tucked away just outside the center, this relaxed guesthouse has great views and a calm atmosphere. Ideal if you’re looking for something simple and serene.
